History of St. Joan of Arc

St. Joan of Arc Church, Victorville, was founded as a mission of Barstow in 1922. In 1927 the parish received its first pastor, Fr. Beary. Thirteen pastors and many other priests have since served the congregation. But that is only a very small part of the story. The major part is the service, faithfulness, dedication and growth of the People of God in this small part of God's Kingdom.

Within the history of the people of Victorville and of the parish has been the experience of the sufferings of the country's wars, racial and ethnic prejudice and poverty. Through it all, this small Catholic community has been a beacon of hope, peace and justice to its surroundings. It has given its young men and women as soldiers. It has exercised civic and business leadership. It has reached out to the poor and marginalized members of the community. The Corporal Works of Mercy have been and are very much alive in the parish.

Today the traditions of the Catholic Faith continue to be a noticeable presence in Victorville. With the blessing of God, the community celebrates 75 years of love and service. With the blessings of God, the parish will continue to be God's faithful people.
